Penfolds Grange 1954

A lighter-styled Grange: To address some of the initial criticism, Schubert slightly altered his approach for the 1954 vintage, reducing the time spent aging in American oak to just nine months. The 1954 growing season was cool to mild, followed by a mild-to-warm vintage, this vintage became one of the most decorated Granges, winning 12 trophies and 52 gold medals on the Australian wine show circuit, thanks to the quality of the aging wine becoming apparent years later.
