The 1970 Penfolds Grange.
A 90% shiraz and 10% cabernet sauvignon blend from the Barossa Valley and Adelaide regions. While a warm vintage led to good grapes, the wine is now considered past its peak, with notes of fading fruit, leathery characters, and drying tannins.
It also won the prestigious Jimmy Watson Trophy at the Royal Melbourne Wine Show.
